Division of English Teaching Methodology (ELT)

English teaching methodology is one of the key contents in the curriculum of the Bachelor’s Degree in English Language Teacher Education at ULIS, VNU.

ELT adopts the learner-center approach in designing courses in order to optimize students’ experience in English learning and teaching methodology. Students are able to experience varied and advanced learning models like task-based learning, project-based learning, etc. Besides, students have the opportunity to practice teaching frequently and receive feedback from teachers and peers, which helps them enhance their professional knowledge and improve their ability to make evaluation. Thanks to that, students develop important virtues of teachers according to the English Teacher Proficiency Framework.

ELT Division is in charge of six courses in the curriculum of mainstream and honors programmes, which are:

– English Teaching Theory

– English Teaching Methodology

– Foreign Language Testing and Assessment

– Lesson Design and Material Development

– English Teaching for Children

– Teaching English as an International Language

TASKS

The Division is assigned the following tasks by the University and the Faculty:

– Contribute to the training of Bachelors with high level of pedagogical competence, meeting the demand of society and international standards.

– Cooperate with the Department of Graduate Studies to offer courses in English Teaching Methodology for the Master’s Degree in English Teaching Methodology and Theory

– Cooperate with the Department of Foreign Language Training and Development to design, teach and train teachers for the Teacher Professional Development Programme of the 2020 Project or  provincial Departments of Training and Education as well as other training institutions.

– Cooperate with the University to organize and implement the Internship Programme for students of Bachelor’s degree in English Language Teacher Education.

ACHIEVEMENTS

The Division has achieved the title of Progressive Labour group for years.

Teachers of the Division have been awarded Emulation Fighter of VNU, Emulation Fighter at the grassroots level, Progressive Labour, Certificates of Merit from the Rector of ULIS and the President of VNU.

Trade Union officials of the division have harvested a number of certificates of merit at different levels for their contribution to the activities of the trade union.

HUMAN RESOURCES

The division consists of thirteen teachers, including one Doctor, twelve Masters (three of them are taking PhD courses in Australia, one in New Zealand and one in Sweden).
