Division of Fast-track Program (BA Honours)

Head of Division: Nguyen Thu Le Hang, PhD

Vice-Head of Division: Pham Thanh Thuy, MA

BA Honours curriculum has been implemented in University of Languages and International Studies, VNU since 2001. The curriculum is currently being applied to two majors: English Language Teacher Education and English Linguistics (translation and interpretating sub-major) with a total number of 13 classes, seven of which are of first-year and second-year students under direct supervision of the Division.

With the number of 155-156 credits applied for QH2015 cohort onward (as compared to 136 credits of mainstream curriculum), coupled with frequent adaptation of international advanced teaching and testing – assessment models, BA Honours curriculum has met the requirements of education in the 21th century. To be more specific, students are expected to become high-qualified professionals with good adaptability, flexibility and excellent English proficiency and relevant specialized knowledge. They should be equipped with numerous soft skills such as communication, searching, critical thinking and teamwork skills. In addition, they are supposed to understand domestic and international environments and acquire insightful social and cultural knowledge. They are trained to be able to conduct scientific research, apply information technology in teaching, manage their self-study, participate in higher education as well as accumulate good quality and intrapersonal skills to become qualified teaching staff at different education levels or professional managers in their working sectors.

With those great ambitions and advanced training targets, on May 6, 2012, the BA Honours Curriculum of English Teacher Education was certificated by the delegation of experts from ASEAN University Network – Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) to meet its AUN-QA – QA criteria. It has also been introduced many times as an effective training curriculum for English Language Teacher Education bachelors nationwide (the latest occasion was in the national conference held in ULIS, VNU on December 18, 2015). Besides, the BA Honours curriculum of English Linguistics achieved peer-to-peer accreditation in VNU with the point of 4.95/7 in November 2015 (equivalent to the national standard).

Currently, this curriculum is being financially supported by VNU. Students attending this program are offered with periodical allowances for training cost, scholarship, study subsidies, etc. They are also given better priorities and opportunities to study aboard or take cultural and educational exchange courses than those in mainstream program.
