Division of Translator and Interpreter Training
Head of Division: Vuong Thi Thanh Nhan, MA
As one of the six major divisions of FELTE, the Division has played an important role in creating professional diversity in the Faculty.
Currently, the Division has 21 lecturers including two PhD candidates overseas, two PhD candidates at ULIS, eight Master degree holders and two Master candidates at ULIS. What should be noticed here is all the lecturers are also reliable and creditable translators and interpreters in the industry who have been working with domestic and foreign organizations and bodies such as the World Bank, UNESCO, British Council Vietnam, and a number of prestigious publishing houses. Thereby, students majoring in Translation and Interpreting have opportunities to be exposed to real-life experiences through conference observations, mock conferences, or book translation projects facilitated by the lecturers.
The Division is currently in charge of developing and delivering ten courses (seven Cores and three Electives) related to Translation and Interpreting: Translation (Sem 5); Interpreting, Advanced Translation, and Translation Studies (Sem 6); Advanced Interpreting, ESP Translation, ESP Interpreting, Professional Aspects of T/I, and Translation Analysis and Assessment, Conference Interpreting (Sem 7). Besides, the Division also acts as the coordinator of Internship Program designed for students majoring in English language of all majors in Sem 8.
The Division of Translator and Interpreter Training also work with Fast-track Program Division in organizing exams to select students for the high-quality program designed for Translation and Interpreting major. Currently, the two divisions are actively developing courses which integrate fundamental translating skills into language proficiency programs run in the first two years, aiming at a smooth transition for students.
